Description

In early March (NC) Carex 'Hime' is topped with an attractive show of weeping

The 20" flower stalks emerge from bare ground in mid-September (NC)

(aka: Trillium A11NC-093) Trillium freemanii 'Cairns' represents our nursery seed-grown plants from our original collection of what we now believe to be Trillium freemanii (our soon-to-be-published 1998 discovery) that we discovered near the remote north Alabama town of Cairns (Morgan County) at 900' elevation

good enough to taste

Although it's native habitat is in moist soils

Calanthe sieboldii Tripidium In early March (NC) Carex(syn: Calanthe striata) Calanthe sieboldii, a hard to find Japanese native terrestrial orchid, has been a superb performer and one of our favorite calanthes. The evergreen foliage (except below 10 degrees F) composes a vigorous 6" tall x 15" wide clump of deeply pleated leaves. In spring, the bloom stalks rise from the ground to reach 20". Along the scape are dozens of small pansy like flowers of bright yellow quite stunning. Calanthe sieboldii
